Anales de la Sociedad Científica Argentina, Vol. 240: Ano 2009
The challenge of becoming proficient in these techniques requires leaming some of the basics of mass analysis and ionization methods and then identifying which techniques are most appropriate for specific problems. For example, a biochemist requiring mass infom1ation on large heterogeneous glycoproteins would probably be most successful with maldi, while a protein chemist routinely analyzing homoge neons proteins in the mass range 20-70 kda will find the highest mass accuracy with esi. This review has therefore been written to familiarize scientists with the general principles of mass spectrometry and its utility as a research tool.
